Unified training programmes roll out across MisysIssue five - March 2013

Boot Camps are one of the biggest training initiatives that we are rolling out this year, supported by our drive towards HPEL hiring (High Potential Entry Level). With the Sales Boot Camp successfully completed and graduates now out in the field, let’s find out how the other programmes are coming along.

Development is running Boot Camp programmes in each of our Global Development Centres: Bangalore (multi-product), Manila (multi-product), Gdynia (Kondor+ and Misys Global Risk), Bucharest (Summit) and Ireland (Sophis). We spoke to Subir Sen, Head of Talent, Capability & Organisation Development in Bangalore and Grzegorz Krzyzanowski, Head of Risk Development in Gdynia who have both been instrumental in devising and implementing the Development programme.

Gdynia was the first to kick off on 14 January with 27 participants embarking on an 11-week programme. Bangalore swiftly followed on 11 February with 24 participants and Manila was launched on 4 March with 12 participants. Ireland is scheduled for later in March and Bucharest in May. “We’re putting 90 people through the first set of Development Boot Camps and expect to have a Boot Camp every eight to ten weeks in each location,” explained Subir. “When you consider the size of our Development organisation [around 2,000 people globally] we need to maintain continuous momentum with our recruitment and training efforts.”

Creating a consistent, unified training programme that can be applied in each development centre worldwide has been a massive co-ordination effort. Subir started working on the programme back in September last year and worked closely with Grzegorz to map out what it should look like. “One of the biggest challenges was to create a framework that could work for everyone,” Grzegorz said. “It needed to meet the expectations and requirements of people with different educational backgrounds and experience. We also wanted to provide a common base that all of the Boot Camps could leverage, regardless of product focus.”

The Development Boot Camp framework means that we now have a unified training programme across the Development organisation for the first time. All participants undergo general company orientation and training on development tools, processes and methodologies before branching off into product specific sessions. Training is a combination of instructor-led and e-learning sessions plus on the job training alongside an assigned mentor. Each product area devised a learning roadmap which includes Sandbox access and supervised production to enable on-the-job training.
“The e-learning elements include access to Pluralsight for core developer training and Intuition for financial markets, both of which are recognised resources and seen as a value-add,” Grzegorz added.

The offer of structured training is proving to be an attractive selling point and a differentiator for Misys. “There has been tremendous excitement around the programme,” Subir said. “The Boot Camp programme is changing the way we look at hiring and the experience of our new joiners for the better.”
